A nursery place is normally reserved for your child on fixed days. The provider still has to pay staff, rent, insurance, utilities and other operating costs even when your child cannot attend.

Short Illness Versus Long-Term Absence
A few isolated sickness days are usually covered by the ordinary absence clause. A prolonged hospital stay or serious medical condition may be handled differently, especially where the provider chooses to offer a temporary fee reduction, deferment or place-holding arrangement.
Do not assume that a medical note automatically creates a refund entitlement. Contact the nursery manager early, explain the expected length of absence and request any agreed variation in writing.
What Happens To Funded Childcare Hours?
Funded childcare is delivered through participating providers under local authority arrangements. Short absences do not necessarily mean the parent receives cash back or can transfer every unused hour to another week. A child being sick is different from the nursery being unable to provide care.
